I grew up in a strong religious environment in Iran. I was very zealous for the faith I grew up with and knew. That faith was not in favor of other religions, particularly the Jewish religion. After my conversion to Christ, my heart and perspective in life took a brand new course. My hatred toward the Jewish faith turned into love. Today, Israel and the Jewish people have a very special place in my heart. I travel often to Israel and I love the fervor and the zeal of the Jewish people. The Hour of Prayer, and The Council are the two pieces through which I wanted to express the zeal that I encounter in Israel. I hope you enjoy these two pieces, as much as I enjoyed painting them.

I have always loved the freedom of the ocean and the open sea. Waves are a strong emotion of the sea, but they do not last long. They are beautiful to observe, but you stay away from their rage. I was fascinated by this wave. It is powerful, and yet it seems harmless because of its color. Isn’t that a good combination?

"Vineyard"

The idea behind this piece is what Jesus said in the book of John, “I am the Vine, you are the branches.” Every branch brings forth fruit of its kind. A branch is the fruit bearing part of the vine. The most fruitful branch is the one that is completely one with the vine. For then and only then, the sap will flow freely into the branch and manifest the nature of the vine.

I lived five years in the city of Stockholm, probably one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Stockholm is a city of a thousand islands. Water is everywhere. This lighthouse is somewhere outside of the city of Stockholm on the way to the open ocean.

This mountainous scene reminds me of the beginning years of my faith in Christ while I was living in the country of Sweden. At that time, I faced many difficulties as a result of my new found faith. I was rejected by my family in Iran because I had become a Christian. Soon after my conversion, I was disowned by my father, and I was adopted by a wonderful Swedish family who lived in a place in Sweden called “Borlange.” I spent several Christmases with them in a Christian retreat camp in the mountains of Borlange. This road reminds me of that place. It became a place of refuge for me in those years of loneliness. I also learned how to ski cross-country! If you feel lonely and rejected, there is a retreat place just above this road. You are welcome to join me there!

Every spiritual blessing that we have obtained is a result of the obedience of the Jewish people. I consider the Jews the most blessed people on this earth, because through their obedience the earth has been blessed. This painting, “Writing the Law,” shows the Jewish people’s commitment to God’s Law. “Writing the Law” shows three generations of Jews that are zealous for the Law of God. As Western civilization is departing from the law of God and the faith of the Bible and walking the path of the heathens of old, I am committed to put emphasis, through my art, on that which binds us together as a nation and as a people. So through this painting I salute my Jewish brethren in their zeal for the law of God.
